First Flu Clinic Set For Marion County

10-21-2005  Article by: Rob Whalen

The Marion City and County Health Departments will be offering the first public flu clinic for high-risk adults only, to be held Monday October 24th in the Community Room at the Southland Mall. Registration will begin at 9:00am and will continue until no later than 2:30pm.

Until further notice, the flu vaccine will only be distributed to those people who are at highest risk for illness, which include: people over 65 years of age, pregnant women, chronically ill people, and those with a weakened immune system, due to cancer or HIV/AIDS. During this particular clinic, flu vaccine will only be distributed to high risk adults. Pediatric flu vaccine will be available through the weekly Tuesday Infant and Childhood Immunization Clinic at the Marion County Health Department.

The flu vaccine will cost $20.00 while the pneumococcal vaccine is $32.00. The Marion County Health Department will accept medical cards and Medicare plan B (cards must be brought to the clinic or you will have to pay cash). The Health Department does not bill private insurance, but will provide receipts to those individuals seeking reimbursement from their private insurance company.

You can find out more information of future clinics by visiting the health departments' websites by clicking here.
