Plenty Brave Weather To Attend Egg Drop

04-09-2007  Article by: Rob Whalen

Seven adults and three children braved sub freezing temperatures and heavy doses of April snow to compete in the 2nd Annual WDCM Easter Egg drop on Saturday. In the end, two stood victorious in the Charleston Place parking lot, each with a different method of success.

As City Councilman Scott Schertzer dropped a dozen eggs to each contestant from the bucket of a Marion City Fire Truck, participants used pillows, hats, coats, and even the old fashioned hands to catch the eggs.

Wyatt Fetter did it the best of the youths, catching 10 of the falling eggs to take top place. Wyatt won a gift package including a Lincoln Park Pool pass, a bicycle from Rocky’s Cyclery and more.

Wyatt used a hat stuffed with a scarf to win.

Laura Peck became the first participant to ever go perfect, using a coat to catch all 12 eggs and winning a Tour of Downtown package, with gift certificates and prizes to downtown businesses.

Laura Whitaker took second place, catching 11 eggs. She won gift certificates to local businesses.

Over 50 children participated in the annual egg hunt which preceded the competition, rolling through bails of straw trying to find over 2,500 eggs.
