Police Warn Of Reoccurring Scam

03-27-2008  Article by:

The Marion City Police Department has issued a warning concerning a potential scam.

A Marion resident was contacted by phone by a person claiming to represent Global, Incorporated. The caller asked the resident to wire $500 to the company via Western Union. In return, the resident would be escorted by the US Marshall’s Office to Las Vegas, where they would receive $2.5 million dollars.

The caller was persistent in trying to obtain the money and made several calls to the same resident.

The resident refused to pay the money.

“We would advise our citizens against sending money to, or accepting money from, anyone they do not know,” said Lt. BJ Gruber of the Marion City Police Department.

The Department investigates several scams of a similar nature each year. “It is important that the public is aware that if you are victimized in a scam of this nature, it is often times difficult to recover your financial losses and you may also be committing a crime through your mere participation,” a news release states.
