A search warrant was executed Thursday morning on a business owned by a former county official.
Agents with the Federal Bureau of Investigation removed some items from Common Sense Mortgage, also known as 3-C Credit Group. The company’s president and owner is former Marion County Commissioner Dave Columber.
A spokesperson with the FBI said it was the agency’s policy not to comment on an open investigation. They did confirm the search warrant was executed.
Common Sense Mortgage is a mortgage broker, although their license with the Department of Commerce had been cancelled prior to the search warrant, and is covered by a confidentiality clause in the Mortgage Broker’s Act.
When contacted, Dennis Ginty, communications officer with the Commerce Department, said the clause prevented the release of most information in regards to an investigation but did say “members of the Department of Financial Institutions were called in by the FBI because of their experience with mortgage-related documents”.
Columber could not be reached for comment.
