Audit Coming Amid AG Office Scandal

04-25-2008  Article by:

The state attorney general's office has asked for an audit of the department overseen by an aide accused by two subordinates of sexual harassment.

A story from the AP says, Anthony Gutierrez, 50, the director of general services for Attorney General Marc Dann, has been on paid leave as Dann's office investigates the claims from two 26-year-old women. Aside from the harassment complaints, one of the women told an investigator that Gutierrez told her he was drunk while driving, fell asleep and crashed a state-owned SUV into a guard rail in October.

As director of general services, Gutierrez oversaw the office's fleet of 254 state-owned vehicles and assigned vehicles to himself, Dan spokesman Ted Hart said.

The Department of Administrative Services _ the business arm of Gov. Ted Strickland's administration _ agreed to audit the department.

"I think this entire experience has pointed out that we may have some shortcomings," Hart said. "That being the case, we just want them to come on in and look at the whole thing."
