Health Department Moves Towards Higher Fees

04-30-2008  Article by:

The Marion County Health Department is one step closer to raising plumbing fees for modular and manufactured homes.

At a public hearing on Wednesday, the Department reviewed increased fees. The new structure would see residential permit fees raised to $50.00 with a $10.00 fee per fixture or trap and $50.00 per admittance valve.

Most contractors, however, are unhappiest about the proposed 35% total fee for plan review. This would cost the contractor – and the consumer – an additional 35% of the total fees.

One contractor, who asked to remain anonymous, said, “This increase will eventually be passed on to the home owner. What’s worse is that right now, homeowner’s don’t need any more expenses.”

The topic will be discussed again at the Department’s May 27th meeting.
