Stamp Prices Going Up Monday

05-08-2008  Article by:

The Forever stamp is a very popular item this week at post offices in Ohio and throughout the U.S. and its territories.

The stamp with the Liberty Bell now costs 41 cents, and you can continue to use it after the cost of mailing a letter goes up to 42 cents on Monday.

Sixty-two-year-old Bill Lindley of Columbus says he's retired now and trying to save some money. So that's why he just bought four books of the stamps, about $30 worth.

The Postal Service says nationwide, Forever stamps were selling at a rate of about 60 million a day last week.

There could be more runs on them in future years. Postal Service spokeswoman Kathy Lucas in Columbus says postage rates are likely to go up each May from now on.
