The Marion County Commissioners Thursday voted to provide more money to the Marion County Fair Board in exchange for eliminating the parking fee at the fairgrounds.
Since 1993, the Commissioners have provided $50,000 yearly in financial support to the fair board. On Thursday, the Commissioners voted to provide an additional $30,000 a year for the next three years. That additional money is earmarked for capital improvement projects, including paving the fairground parking lots and roads.
With the extra money coming their way, the fair board is eliminating the parking fee at the fair grounds. That fee, which had been raised to $3, will not return until at least May of 2011.
