The Arts Palace, a visual and performing arts program of the Marion Palace Theatre offers area youth the opportunity to become involved in the arts as part of the theatre's Summer Day Camps.
Camps will kick off the week of July 21 and run through August 15 for children ages 4 to 12 years. Registration deadlines are one week before class begins.
All camp participants receive healthy, energy boosting snacks mid-session each day. Registration deadline is one week prior to the first class meeting. Class sizes are limited; early enrollment is encouraged.
Due to funding from the AMVETS Post 138, Helen Woltmann Memorial, Junior Service Guild and Marion Community Foundation scholarships are available to students based on need and artistic interest.

Following are summer camp details.
Magic & Mysteries Camp is an enchanting week inspired by several of the most popular children's books and movies. Children will use their natural curiosity and imaginations to bring the world of Harry Potter, Nancy Drew, Magic Tree House, Spiderwick and Narnia alive. Students will hear a portion of the story and experience hands-on-activities stimulated by the story -- conduct experiments during "Hogwarts Potions," design a Spiderwick bogart birdhouse, create a Narnia snowglobe, make Spiderwick faerie food, follow clues just like Nancy Drew to solve a mystery and much more. Children 6-8 years will meet from 9 am to noon and children 9-12 years will meet from 1 pm to 4 pm the week of July 21-July 25. Camp fee is $65.
Adventures In Art students ages 9-12 years will meet in the mornings July 21-July 25 from 9 am to noon. This visual arts camp's projects are designed to expand kids' appreciation for creative learning and artistic expression. Instructor Anne Quilter will encourage children as they develop new skills and hone their creativity. Each day, students will explore new artistic techniques with several fun and whimsical art mediums including painting, clay sculpting, balsa foam carving, mosaic sand sculpture, batik t-shirt design, pinch pot pottery and wire form sculptures. Camp fee is $65.
What's The Matter? will introduce students ages 7-10 years to the wondrous world of science with the marvelous Professor Gizmos Molecules. Professor Molecules will engage students' minds in clever instructional insights and keep them involved in hands-on experiments including: imploding a can, controlling how a ketchup packet floats and sinks, forming a cloud, sucking an egg into a bottle and more. If you have youngsters with inquisitive minds who are always wondering how things work and why, then this is the class for them! Campers meet from 1 pm to 3 pm the week of July 28-August 1. Camp fee is $55.
Set The Stage has always been an Arts Palace camp favorite for children of all ages. The Palace Theatre stage jumps to life as campers prepare a musical in just five days. Young actors are immersed in the production process learning lines and cues, preparing energetic song and dance numbers and performing on the Palace stage. Every actor will receive lines to memorize. Students work with professional actress, choreographer and Broadway veteran Kristi Wink on character development, voice and diction, performance skills, singing, and dancing. On Friday, this camp will culminate in a showcase performance of songs, scenes, and dances during the entertaining musical ‘Bugz'. Due to popular demand this camp is offered the week of July 28-August 1 and August 4-August 8. Students 6-8 years will meet from 9 am to noon and ages 9-12 years will meet from 1 pm to 4 pm. Camp fee is $75 and includes a t-shirt and pizza party.
Culinary Camp for Kids ages 9-12 years will meet August 11-August 15 from 1 pm to 4 pm. Future chefs will create flavorsome appetizers, magnificent main dishes and delicious desserts. And, yes they will eat what they create! Students are taught the importance of food preparation, keeping a clean work space, kitchen safety, how to follow recipe directions and measuring ingredients. Culinary campers will learn basic cooking techniques using a microwave, double burner, oven and classic cooking tools. Each day will focus on a different theme: Sleepover Success, Culinary Campout, Mexican Fiesta, Caribbean Party and Italian Night. Camp fee $75.
Little Bits Camp for children ages 4-6 years will meet from 10 am to noon the week of August 11-August 15. This exciting day camp will jumpstart your child's creative curiosity with a little bit of everything for youngsters. This integrated theatre, visual arts and science camp will develop students' fine motor, listening, and socialization skills. Each day will have a different theme and feature a special guest who will visit with the children and inspire participants to create take home art projects. Events include meeting exotic animal keepers Dan and Jean Fisher and their reptilian pets; learning simple sign language and singing catchy folk tunes with Angie Carbetta; watching a live dance performance by Kristi Wink and learning dance steps; seeing a mini stage production by area youth (up close and personal); tasting nutritious and delicious produce from local farmers Gary & Teri Hite and planting vegetable seeds to take home. Parents are invited but not required to stay. Camp fee $55.
