Doors Tribute At Rock-N-Ribs Fest

06-20-2008  Article by:

Jay Zirkle as Jim MorrisonThe 3rd Annual Rock-N-Ribs Fest will feature a blast from the psychedelic past on August 2nd. Mojo Risin, one the nation’s most renowned Doors tribute bands, will take the stage to close the show at the battle of the bands.

Mojo Risin was born in April 1995 in a suburban Cleveland basement when four devout Doors fans came together for one purpose: to take the idea of a Doors tribute band further than anyone had ever thought possible.

Although only two of the members had ever met before, it was immediately obvious that they shared two things: a fanatical devotion to The Doors, and a disappointment with the Doors tribute bands that they had seen.

That devotion includes a set list consisting of everything the Doors recorded between 1968 and 1971 as well as all stage equipment from 1968 to provide a more authentic sound.

“Its amazing how close they are to the real thing,” event coordinator Rob Whalen said. “From the look to the sound, it’s like a trip back in time to a concert in 1968. The public won’t be disappointed in them.”

The band is comprised of Jay Zirkle doing the vocals, Justin Johnson on guitar, Steve Zavesky on drums, and Mark Jamieson on keyboard.

Mojo Risin will take the stage at 9:30 PM.

More information on the band can be found at www.doorstribute.com.

The 3rd Annual Rock-N-Ribs Festival is presented by The Marion Star, The US Open Commission, OSUM, MTC, and WDCM.

The Festival takes place on the OSUM/MTC campus, August 2nd. Gates open at 2 PM. Admission is $3 per car load.

The Battle of the Bands also currently has just two slots left open. Interested bands can submit their press kits to WDCM radio, 123 East Church Street. You can also call 740-387-9326.

The winning band receives a $250 cash prize, 10 hours of professional recording time at Jester’s Court Recording Studio, and a co-headline gig at the 4th annual event.
