Agreement Extends Time Before Hospital Vote 06-20-2008

An agreement has been reached between the city and county regarding a proposed lease with Marion General Hospital.

The agreement, which was signed by Judge William Finnegan and approved by the Marion County Commissioners on Thursday states that neither side will take any action on the lease prior to 6 PM, June 27th.

The Marion City Council is expected to okay the agreement on Monday.

A preliminary injunction hearing, which had been scheduled for today, will now not be necessary.

The lease with Marion General Hospital received its second reading on June 13th , with a third reading and possible vote scheduled for June 23rd. A vote would have broke a long standing agreement between the Council and Commissioners concerning governance of Marion General.

City Council voted against postponing the second reading.

The commissioners had asked the Council to postpone a vote while a consultant is brought in to review the proposed lease.

That lease would see Marion General’s rent raised to $300,000 with an additional 4% increase per year. It would run through 2043.

Slagle had filed the injunction with the Marion County Common Pleas court, asking for a hearing before the possible third reading.
