Elgin is discussing adding a drug test for student drivers.
The school board heard initial discussions about the suggestion, which came from Athletic Director Jason Hix on Monday, and will talk about it more on at their next meeting on August 11th.
Elgin, Pleasant, and Ridgedale currently test students for drugs. Ridgedale and Pleasant tests every student at the beginning of the year and randomly test student drivers.
The suggested testing would increase the student driving pass $17, from the current cost of $3 to $20.
Under Hix’s recommendation, student drivers would lose driving privileges for 36 days for the first offense and 72 days for the second offense. The third offense would mean suspension of driving privileges.
