Trial Postponed In Child Rape Case

08-06-2008  Article by:

The trial of Danny Eugene Starner, which was scheduled to begin this week, has been postponed while his three-lawyer defense team seeks expert advice.

Starner, 54, was scheduled to stand trial on 19 counts of rape and 13 counts of gross sexual imposition.

Starner is accused of committing the crime between May 9th, 2001 to December 31st, 2007 on a boy and two girls. Two of the victims are now older than 13 while one is still younger than that. All of the victims knew Starner and are expected to testify against him.

Starner’s lawyers – Luther Mills, Tom Waldeck, and Nancy Wonnell – asked for a continuance to hire experts to review certain evidence.

Starner remains in the Multi-County Correctional Center on a $300,000 cash or corporate bond.

If convicted, Starner could spend the rest of his life in prison.
