Two homes were damaged on North Seffner Sunday evening after a cigarette was discarded in a tree stump.
Marion City firefighters responded to a 9-1-1 call at 6:41 PM where they found the house at 222 showing heavy fire.
Investigators say a smoldering cigarette butt was thrown into a tree stump earlier in the day but continued to smolder until eventually erupting in flames.
The house was destroyed with $50,000 in damages to the structure and $20,000 in contents while siding and the garage of a neighboring home also suffered damage estimated at $10,000.
A firefighter was injured when a ceiling collapsed while a dog was killed in the blaze, which has been ruled accidental.
