Financial Help For School Music Offered

08-14-2008  Article by:

Marion’s US Open Commission recently announced that it is making funds available to help area students involved in the musical arts.

The funds will be available for students in two categories:

  • Countywide high school students who need assistance with music pay-to-play fees
  • Marion City School fifth graders who are interested in participating in the returning music program and could use assistance with music instrument rental fees

The funds are being administered through the Marion County Family and Children First Council. Parents who are interested in applying for funding should contact Kelly Garrett at 223-3075.

The US Open Commission holds several fundraisers throughout the year including the recent Rock-N-Ribs Festival held at the Ohio State University at Marion/Marion Technical College campus. The US Open Commission is also the licensee of Marion Community Radio, 97.7 WDCM, which supports the Commission’s mission of promoting the musical arts in Marion through scholarship, performance, and competition.
