Marion County’s unemployment rate was higher than the state’s, according to data released Tuesday by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services.

Marion County’s rate was 7.6%, putting it in the middle of all 88 counties, but above the 7.2% the state announced last week. The rate at the end of 2007 was 5.5%.

Meigs County has a rate of 11% for July, the highest in the state. Holmes County had the lowest at 5.1% followed by Delaware County at 5.2%.

Crawford County was the 8th worst in the state at 9.7%. Other nearby counties include Wyandot (22 at 8.6%) and Morrow (55 at 7.0%).

The state's current unemployment rate is the highest since Dec. 1992, when it was also 7.2 percent.
