Mt. Gilead Runs Past River Valley

10-11-2008  Article by:

The Mt. Gilead Indians used a strong running attack to run past the River Valley Vikings on Friday, 26-6. The Vikings had their opportunities, but poor blocking and mistakes spelled their doom.

The Vikings were down by two touchdowns, one of those scored on the second down of the game, when the Indians were threatening again. River Valley picked up a fumbled snap, but an inadvertent whistle cost the Vikings the touchdown they would have scored. Instead, River Valley had to march down the field with a strong running game to score, making the game 14-6.

Mt. Gilead roared right back, but as they were in reach of the goal line, the Vikings picked off a pass to end the half.

That was all River Valley could muster though and they gave up several more scores in the second half. The Vikings struggled all night on offense largely due to poor blocking which allowed Mt. Gilead quick access to the quarterback.
