According to unofficial tallies, the Marion City and County Health Districts will merge January 1, 2010. The merger initiative, pushed by the League of Women Voters, Marion Area Chamber of Commerce and others, needed to pass in both the county and the city separately. It appears it has...so far.
City numbers had it passing 8,740 to 5,857 while county numbers had it closer at 6,330 to 5,145.
There are still between 1,600 and 1,700 votes left to be counted, so that could change, but that would require an overwhelming majority against.
There might not be 1,600 to 1,700 votes actually counted however.
Provisional ballots could be tossed for any one of several reasons, meaning the additional vote totals could be significantly smaller.
The Board of Elections will hold the provisional ballots for 10 days while waiting for proper identification from several hundred voters.
