Detective Christy Utley and her K-9 partner, “Kilo”, finished with top honors during this year’s United States Police Canine Association’s Region 5 narcotic’s trials in Loveland, Ohio which took place October 26th through the 28th, 2008.
Out of 26 canine teams that were present from Ohio, Indiana and Kentucky Detective Utley and Kilo finished in third place scoring 198.17 out of a possible 200 points. These canines are tested in the detection of marijuana, cocaine, crack, heroin, methamphetamines and other types of drugs that are hidden in buildings & cars. This was only the second time this team has participated in the trials & Detective Utley should be commended for their performance.
Detective Utley & Kilo are members of the Marion County Sheriff's Office & are assigned to the MARMET Drug Task Force. Kilo is a four year old Belgian Malinois from Holland. He is solely trained in the detection of narcotics and the team is also certified through the State of Ohio.
Marion City Police Patrolman Norm Ratterman and his canine partner Silver Bullet finished in fourth place overall in narcotics detection and tied for first place in the detection of narcotics in vehicles.
The group was awarded 2nd place due to a tiebreaker.
