Days after announcing 120 layoffs, Whirlpool has announced even more.
570 of the approximately 3,5000 employees at the Marion Division of Whirlpool were told on Monday they will be out of a job either November 23rd or November 25th.
The cuts, which are temporary, will affect second-shift workers.
“Whirlpool continues to evaluate every aspect of its business to ensure it remains competitive in this very difficult economic environment. The company has announced layoffs at a number of its manufacturing facilities due to fluctuations in consumer demand,” spokeswoman Jill Saletta said in an email to WDCM.
No time frame was available from the corporation, but several employees told WDCM the layoffs were expected to last 6 months. Those employees spoke on condition on anonymity.
The layoffs are not connected to the worldwide reduction in force that resulted in the loss of 5,000 global jobs on October 29th.
