The Pleasant and River Valley school districts have received Ohio Soybean Council grants.
The grants, from the Biodiesel School Bus Grant Program, will help cover the cost difference between regular petroleum diesel and B20 biodiesel.
A joint venture with the Ohio Department of Development and the Council’s Clean Air For Kids program, the grants could be worth up to a maximum of $25,000.
Each school district had to apply with information about the bus fleets and estimates of fuel usage, among other things.
B20 biodiesel is a blend of 20% biodiesel and 80% petroleum diesel.
B20, which stands for “blend of 20%” can be used in unmodified engines. B100, or a blend of 100% biodiesel, requires certain engine modifications to avoid problems.
