For those looking forward to the certification of the 2008 general election and finally knowing the official results, there is bad news. You will have to wait a little while longer.
The Marion County Board of Elections will not certify the vote until Tuesday, November 25th. The change in dates followed an order issued by Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner to recount all paper ballots.
Three races are left to be decided when the final 1,370 votes are tallied next week.
The closest race is for Sheriff where Republican Russ Rigney leads incumbent Democrat Tim Bailey by 90 votes.
Marion County Children Services is seeking a replacement levy, which is being defeated by 197 votes right now.
County Commissioner Ken Frayer is trailing democratic challenger Dan Russell by 218 votes.
The ballots that will be counted include 758 provisional ballots. The board of elections tossed out 254 questionable ballots. Reasons for the exclusions included not returning an absentee ballot sealed appropriately, voting at the wrong polling place, or failure to bring identification.
Also left to be counted are 552 early votes cast on November 1st and 3rd, 48 mailed in absentee ballots, and at least 12 military ballots.
