Two Marionites Awarded By Patrol 06-08-2009

A Patrol Driver License Examiner from the Marion Driver Examination Station and a local resident were honored Friday for their skilled handling of a potentially dangerous situation during a driver test in the city of Marion in Marion County.

Driver Examiner (DX) Jeffrey W. Boyd and local resident Mac Hall were presented Certificates of Recognition today by Lt. John Thompson, Commander of the Bucyrus District’s Office of Licensing and Commercial Standards, for their professionalism in the handling of a February 20, 2009 incident.

On February 20, 2009, DX Boyd was administering a routine driving examination, when the man driving during the test suffered a seizure and became unresponsive. From the passenger seat, DX Boyd pulled the vehicle’s emergency brake, which slowed the vehicle before it struck several parked cars. As the vehicle stopped near the Marion County Administration Building, DX Boyd moved the gear shift into park and turned off the ignition. He then attracted the attention of Mac Hall, a maintenance supervisor walking outside, and requested his assistance.

DX Boyd used his radio to notify a Patrol dispatcher of the situation, location and requested emergency medical response for the driver. Hall and DX Boyd made the victim as comfortable as possible until emergency personnel arrived on the scene.
