Marion General ER Nurse Honored

06-12-2009  Article by:

This year, the annual OhioHealth Facets of Nursing Excellence Award was celebrated at individual OhioHealth hospitals. At Marion General Hospital, the award was presented to Vicki Phillips, a staff nurse in the hospital’s emergency department.

This prestigious award is given to one nurse at each hospital in the system, chosen from among the thousands of nurses providing care daily throughout OhioHealth hospitals.

The award is given each year to recognize one nurse nominated from his or her nursing peers, leaders and physicians for modeling the seven facets of nursing
excellence: Excellence and Professionalism in Nursing Practice, Education, Collegiality and Collaboration, Ethics, Research, Resource Utilization and Leadership.

Phillips was nominated by Nichole Liston, emergency services nurse manager.

“Vicki has been a nurse for 28 years and has worked in our ER for nine years,” stated Liston in her nomination. “Vicki is not just a preceptor for new employees, she is a mentor (life coach) … and not just for 12 weeks, but for a life time.”

Liston continued, “Her commitment is to nursing, her patients, her co-workers and her community. She is inspiring. We are better people because we know her.”

Marion General was honored to have 19 nominees for the award this year.
