The State has released results of this year’s Ohio Graduation Tests. Elgin showed a significant increase in sophomores who passed the OGT, while Pleasant showed better results as well.

60.4 percent of Elgin 10th graders passed all five parts of the tests, up from 47.9 last year.

Additionally, Elgin saw in increase in those passing individual parts, which are:  reading, math, writing, science, and social studies.

Pleasant saw a larger percentage pass the individual tests, but the same amount as last year passed all five combined.

With the state recommending a percentage of 75%, however, Elgin reached in reading in writing while Pleasant crossed in all five.

River Valley saw a slight drop, with 67.2% passing all five portions.  RV did meet the 75% number in all five subjects.

Ridgedale met the benchmark in reading, writing, and social studies while 54.3% passed all five tests.

Marion City had just 45.1% pass all five tests and did not meet the benchmark in any area.

Students who do not pass one or more tests on their first attempt will retake the tests they need to pass during their junior and senior years. Ohio Graduation Tests are administered each fall and spring, with an optional summer administration available within some school districts.

If students do not pass all five portions, but have passed four and missed the fifth by 10 points or less, they can still graduate by completing a rigorous set of tasks.

Students who have met all of the curriculum requirements for graduation but have not passed all required parts of the OGT before their intended date of graduation are not allowed to graduate with their classmates.
