A wayward bird caused a headache for residents and businesses near Marion Catholic High School on Tuesday.
That wayward bird flew into the Ohio Edison Bexley Substation, located behind Marion Catholic High School, at 6:47 Tuesday morning. The bird blew a fuse, causing power to be cut to 889 customers.
According to Kirk Gardner, Area Manager for Ohio Edison, power was restored to 388 of the customers at 7:37 after power was transferred from one transofmrmer to another.
The other 501 customers had to wait until 8:12.
It was not soon enough for one area business, however.
Wal-Mart - which does not have back-up generators according to Ron Wilson, General Manager of the store – lost a significant amount of meat products.
“We only lost power for a short time, but the surge blew some power in the back and it took us over 3 hours to get the repairs done,” Wilson said.
