Tribute Bands To Rock Popcorn Fest Stage

06-29-2009  Article by:

Guns N’ Roses and Poison Tribute bands will rock the Marion Popcorn Festival on Thursday, September 10.  Poison’s tribute band Number One Bad Boys will kick off the main stage entertainment at 6:15 p.m.; and November Rain, the Guns N’ Roses tribute, will take the main stage at 8:30 p.m.  As with all Festival entertainment, these performances are free to the public.

Poison hit the rock scene in the mid-1980s with a popularity that saw them outsold only by Bon Jovi and Def Leppard.  Poison was also known for their stage show, and Number One Bad Boys recreates the look, the sound, and the pure raw energy of those renowned performances.  Festival attendees will hear all the hits, including “Every Rose Has Its Thorn”, “I Want Action”, “Talk Dirty to Me”, “Fallen Angel”, “Nothing’ But a Good Time”, “Your Mama Don’t Dance”, and “Something to Believe In”.

Hailing from the Boston area, November Rain took their name from Guns N’ Roses’ 1992 chart topping hit of the same name.  Formed in 2004, the tribute band feels they fill the void left after Guns N’ Roses’ breakup in the mid-1990s.

November Rain recreates every visual and musical nuance of the legendary Guns N’ Roses shows.  Fans will hear many Guns N’ Roses favorites, including “Knocking on Heaven’s Door”, “Sweet Child O’ Mine”, “Don’t Cry, Paradise City”, “Anything Goes”, “Patience”, “You Could be Mine”, and “Welcome to the Jungle”.

The 2009 dates of the Marion Popcorn Festival are September 10, 11 and 12.  Previously announced were country-rock group Sawyer Brown on Friday, September 11, and rock ‘n roll band Survivor on Saturday, September 12.  Both performances will begin at 8:30 p.m. on the Festival’s main stage and are free of charge.  Kernel sponsorship seats for the tribute bands, Survivor or Sawyer Brown are available by calling 740-383-2076.

A cappella groups InChant and 4 THE RECORD will also be gracing the stage of the Palace Theatre on Thursday afternoon, September 10, at 2:00

Currently in its 29th year, the Marion Popcorn Festival is the largest popcorn festival in the world with an annual attendance estimated in excess of 250,000 over the three-day festival.  Other events include The Marion Popcorn Festival Scholarship Program, Miss Teeny Pop, Wee Little Pop, the Orville Redenbacher Popcorn Parade with over 300 units, a popcorn cooking contest, a fine art show, crafts, Popcorn 5000 5K run, Popcorn 100 bike tour, a community showcase stage, and more.  For more information, visit our web site at www.popcornfestival.com or call 740-387-FEST.
