The Marion community is invited to an event honoring a fallen soldier. Marion County Veteran’s Services and the Marion County Commissioners will honor Staff Sergeant Shannon Smith, who was killed September 8th in Iraq.

That event will take place at 9 AM on Tuesday, September 29, during the commissioners’ meeting.

Following that, a procession will be led from the County Building to the Marion County Courthouse where a temporary plaque will be hung in honor of the 1997 Harding graduate.

The procession will provide some challenges to downtown drivers.

Beginning at 7 AM tomorrow morning, there will be no parking allowed on the north side of West Center Street from North Main Street to Campbell Street.

Then, at 9 AM, lane restrictions will shut down the north lane of West Center Street. Marion City police and fire departments will be posted at the intersections.

The procession is expected to be finished by 10 AM.
