Winds Blamed For Tipped Vehicle

09-29-2009  Article by:

Strong winds are being blamed for fires, damage, and even an overturned car. The National Weather Service issued a wind advisory yesterday as gusts hit 50 MPH.

In Marion, a woman’s vehicle was overturned by the wind as she was making a turn from Mount Vernon Avenue onto Reed Avenue.

Police say 23-year-old Beck Sutherland was attempting to turn left onto her home street when the wind caught her Saturn Ion and flipped it on its side.

She was uninjured.

The wind was also being blamed for a house fire in Toledo. Three people were able to exit the home safely after firefighters say a curtain blowing from the wind was caught on fire by a candle. A family dog was killed in the blaze.

The damage was far less, however, than a wind storm almost a year ago spawned from Hurricane Ike which knocked out several utilities.
