Road Bids, Transportation Contracts Approved

09-30-2009  Article by:

At their meeting Tuesday, the Marion County Commissioners passed everyday business involving finances along with the acceptance of transportation for Marion County Job and Family Services.

The medical transportation contract has been contentious since the last contract lapsed, with the original bids being underwhelming according to the commissioners.

On Tuesday, the commissioners awarded the contract to three different companies.

Inside Marion County and for pregnancy related transportation, Jackson Transportation Group will be the provider at $1.70 per mile.

Outside Marion County other than to the Columbus area, Marion Red Cab was selected at a rate of $1.50 per mile and $19 per appointment for wait time after the first 1 ½ hours.

For trips to the Columbus area, On-Site ATS was selected at $1.50 per mile.

The commissioners also passed a resolution authorizing Marion County Engineer Brad Irons to seek bids for construction of the southern portion of the Northwest Industrial Corridor.

The project is estimated to cost $6.4 million with federal highway stimulus funds covering $5.1 million of the price tag.
