Marion Art Gallery Holding Reception 10-02-2009

The Wayne & Geraldine Kuhn Fine Arts Gallery at Ohio State Marion is presenting “Drawing it out,” an exhibition of drawings that explores the recording of thought through drawing, September 21 through October 30, 2009.

There will be a closing artist reception on Wednesday, October 28, from 4-6 p.m. The reception is free and open to the public. Participating in the exhibit are a host of 24 uniquely talented artists from Columbus, Ohio, and beyond.

According to Ohio State Marion faculty member and gallery curator Sarah Weinstock, each artist has his or her own visual language, revealing a unique process, progression, interest, fixation, and/or focus.

“Because drawing is often the most immediate way to capture a mental process, (picking up a pencil and making a rough sketch for example), one gets to peek into the creative mind without the overworking or self-censorship associated with more traditional artistic mediums,” she explained.

“When a thought is allowed to run its course,” added Weinstock, “these drawings have the ability to inform not only the viewer, but also the artist of his or her own interests.”

“Whether these thoughts exist as a long thread, or an initial blip or spark, it is the transformation into a visual form that is of interest here."

Artists were asked to provide a statement about how drawing reveals their thought processes.

According to Weinstock, the inclusion of the written statements seeks to clarify each artist’s intentions - illustrating how differently each mind works through ideas and seeks to convey them.

The gallery is located in Morrill Hall, 1465 Mt. Vernon Avenue, Marion. The Wayne & Geraldine Kuhn Fine Arts Gallery is free and open to the public Monday through Friday, 8-5 p.m.
