Over 70 Schools Expected At College Night

10-08-2009  Article by:

Area high school students from central and north central Ohio, parents, and other interested adults are invited to attend the 34th annual Marion Area College Night, Monday, October 12, 2009, 6:30-8 p.m. in the George H. Alber Student Center on the Marion campus.

The event, which is co-sponsored by Marion Technical College and The Ohio State University at Marion each year focuses on connecting prospective college students and their parents with a multitude of higher education opportunities.

Jane Galyk, assistant director of admission at Marion Technical College, and Matt Moreau, Ohio State Marion’s director of enrollment management, plan the annual event in conjunction with area high school guidance counselors.

“The purpose of College Night is to provide students and their parents with information regarding post secondary educational opportunities at a variety of schools throughout Ohio,” Galyk said.

“Some out-of-state schools will be represented as well. Those attending will have an opportunity to meet with more than 70 college and university representatives from Ohio and surrounding states.  The representatives will be available to answer questions about specific academic programs, admission requirements, campus life, and financial aid opportunities at their colleges.

According to Moreau, it is expected that nearly 800-900 students and parents will be in attendance.  Both Galyk and Moreau report that the Ohio Association of College Admissions Counselors has rated the Marion Area College Night as a well-planned college information program.

The event will follow an information open house format, including two special sessions on college admission and financial aid planning for parents and prospective students.
College Night is free and open to the public.  For more information, contact Ohio State Marion at 725-6337, or Marion Technical College at 389-4636, extension 247.
