Local Girls Scouts Volunteering At Goodwill

10-14-2009  Article by:

Area Girl Scouts are taking part in Good Turn Day 2009, on Saturday, November 7, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Local scouts will collect donations and volunteer at 8 Goodwill sites in Marion, Delaware, and Union counties.

Scouts do a ‘good turn’ for the community by collecting used clothing, books, housewares, and other items to be donated to Goodwill or by volunteering their time in a store. The Girl Scouts will be in uniform doing various tasks such as greeting customers and bagging purchases. After participating, the girls will receive a patch to recognize their efforts.

“We are excited to take part in this tradition this year” said Bob Jordan, President/CEO of Marion Goodwill Industries. “Good Turn Day is a great opportunity for the Girl Scouts to get involved in their community and see the difference their service can make.”

The event also helps make the public aware of Goodwill’s need for donations of quality, gently used goods. The items collected are sold in Goodwill’s 8 retail stores to support the mission of helping local community members prepare for, find, and retain employment.

Donations to Goodwill for Good Turn Day 2009 on November 7 can be brought to the following Goodwill Retail Stores:

• Marion: 1637 Marion-Mt. Gilead Rd.
• Delaware North: 171 S. Sandusky St.
• Delaware South: 1135 B. Columbus Pike
