The Marion County Health Department is cancelling an upcoming flu shot clinic and saying they may run out of vaccine earlier than expected. Due to the limited supply remaining of the seasonal flu vaccine, the flu clinic scheduled for Caledonia on Wednesday, October 21st has been cancelled.
The seasonal flu clinic scheduled for Monday at Emanuel Lutheran Church from 9:00-1:00 and 2:00-5:30 will operate as long as the vaccine supply is available.
The County Health Department fully expects to run out of the vaccine sometime during the Emanuel Lutheran Clinic.
“There’s probably been earlier interest and a bigger demand (for the vaccine),” Lisa Cook of the Health Department said.
Once the current supplies run out, there will be no more.
Several other local pharmacies and vaccine providers are reporting they are either extremely low or out completely.
These shots protect against the seasonal flu. The H1N1 vaccine has yet to be provided to the public in Marion County, although the Health Department hopes to have that happen within 2 weeks, according to Cook.
The County received a limited supply of both the mist and injectable varieties in Friday and Monday, but those doses went to EMT’s and Health Professionals.
Once the next shipment comes in, the Health Department will hold clinics at area schools that will be open to the public, but only to those in the highest priority groups: those under the age of 24, pregnant women, people who care or work with children under the age of 6 months, and those aged 25-64 with health conditions.
