A Marion man is expected to be arraigned today on charges of murder. 47-year-old Terry Taylor, of 347 Avondale in Marion, was arrested at Wood Valley Estates in Caledonia two hours after police say he fled from the scene Sunday evening.
Major Jay McDonald of the Marion City Police Department says it looks like a love triangle led to the shooting.
McDonald says the wife of the victim, Rhonda McMurray, is believed to have been involved with Taylor for several weeks prior to the shooting.
She called 9-1-1 to report the shooting, saying Taylor came in and shot her husband and tried to shoot her. She was not shot, however.
According to McDonald, the three were well known to police following several domestic calls to the Oak Street home. Both Kevin McMurray and Taylor had accused each other of retaliatory acts, including slashing car tires.
The three were also familiar with each other prior to the incident. McDonald believes McMurray knew of his wife’s relationship with Taylor.
Tips from people who knew Taylor led cops to his sister’s home in Wood Valley where Taylor was taken into custody with incident, with the help of the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.
Police are still investigating the homicide including two search warrants where police searched Taylor’s car and home.
Investigators are looking for the murder weapon which is believed to be a small caliber hand gun.
Investigators say Taylor had a criminal history in South Carolina where he shot a man in the hand.
