November 15-21, 2009 has been declared National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week.
The Marion Continuum of Care Housing Coalition has arranged various activities for this week. On November 18th Marion County residents are encouraged to skip lunch on this day and donate the money that would have been spent to the Marion Homeless Shelter.
The Coalition will be providing a community dinner open to anyone also on November 18th. The community dinner will be held at the Salvation Army on East Church Street from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Again, the dinner is free and open to anyone wishing to have a hot meal.
The week will end with the Palace Theatre featuring the movie “Pursuit of Happiness”. This heartwarming film demonstrates how good, hard-working people can become homeless overnight. The movie will be shown on Saturday November 21st at 7:30 p.m. and again on Sunday November 22nd at 7:30 p.m.
Families who bring in non perishable food items for the homeless shelter will receive a free box of popcorn.
