Better late than never.
The Browns have their first win of the season thanks to
an 18-yard Billy Cundiff field goal with 23 seconds left.
The final: Browns 6, Bills 3.
The Browns essentially won it in the punting game. Three
beautiful Dave Zastudil punts were downed inside the Buffalo 5, and the winning
drive was set up when Roscoe Parrish muffed a punt while trying to stop it from
rolling. The Browns started at the Bills' 16 with just under three minutes
remaining.
Jamal Lewis led all ball carriers with 117 yards on 31
carries, including a key first-down run inside of two minutes that allowed the
Browns to kill the clock.
The Browns' only previous points came on a 24-yard
Cundiff field goal midway through the second quarter. Rian Lindell's 36-yard
field goal tied it on the first drive of the second half.
The Browns defense swarmed Bills QB Trent Edwards,
sacking him twice and forcing him to throw the ball away on several occasions.
Eric Wright had an interception on a deep pass intended for Terrell Owens at the
Buffalo 7 late in the third quarter.
The Bills drove inside the Browns' 25 late in the first
half before penalties pushed them back to the 31. They went for it on fourth
down due to the wind. Mike Adams blasted Edwards as he threw and Brodney Pool
swatted the ball away as the Browns got a big stop.
