Browns Unable to Slow Down Packers
10-25-2009 8:25 pm

Aaron Rodgers and the Packers were too much for the Browns Sunday in a 31-3 win.

The Packers scored 21 unanswered points in the second quarter to take command. The Browns had scored first when Billy Cundiff made a 22-yard field goal to start the second quarter.

Once the Packers got rolling, though, the Browns couldn't keep pace. Rodgers was 15-of-20 passing for 246 yards and 3 TD to three different receivers. Donald Driver's 71-yard catch and run touchdown with 7:01 left in the first half made it 14-3.

"I thought we were making progress, but it wasn't there today," Browns head coach Eric Mangini said. "The big plays killed us. Missed tackles, you just can't do that."

Ryan Grant ran for 148 yards and a TD. He rushed for 100 yards in the second half and was a big reason the Packers possessed the ball for 21:38 in the second half.

The Packers won their second straight since coming off a bye week. They improve to 4-2 heading into next week's home game with Minnesota.

Derek Anderson was 12-of-29 for 99 yards and an interception late in the second quarter by Charles Woodson that led to Grant's 1-yard touchdown and a 21-3 halftime advantage.

"It was a really disappointing day across the board," Mangini said. "I don't think we played very well. I don't think we coached very well."

The Browns managed just 139 yards of total offense and were 2-of-12 on third down. Anderson was sacked twice, and the Browns weren't able to sack Rodgers.

"We didn't execute well enough," Anderson said. "We didn't make enough plays. We put our defense in a couple bad spots."

A 45-yard Rodgers pass to Spencer Havner with 12:11 left in the second quarter got the Packers on the board, capping a six-play, 71-yard drive. The Packers went 99 yards in 8 plays for the game's final score, a 5-yard pass to James Jones with 9:42 left.

"We haven't executed," Anderson said. "We haven't done the right things. You can't win when you play like we did."

"We need no excuses," Joshua Cribbs said. "We played some bad football and turned the ball over, and you can't win games when you do that."
