Aaron Harang worked into the seventh inning but wound up
with another hard-luck loss in a 3-2 Reds defeat Tuesday night at Citizens Bank
Park.
Harang (2-8) gave up three earned runs and nine hits
with one walk and four strikeouts. But he was outdone by Phillies starter Adam
Eaton, who gave up one run and three hits over 6 2/3 innings for the win.
Eaton (2-3) retired his first six batters in a row until
Edwin Encarnacion's leadoff home run in the top of the third gave the Reds a 1-0
lead. The Phillies right-hander shut down all offensive efforts after that by
retiring 12 of the next 14 batters.
Encarnacion began the eighth with a triple to the
left-center-field wall against Tom Gordon and scored on pinch-hitter Javier
Valentin's sacrifice fly.
After a 5-1 homestand, the Reds have lost the first two
games of the four-game series in Philadelphia.
