The Boys and Girls Club of Marion will host their first annual OSU Celebrity Basketball Game and dinner on Friday, June 27th.

Marion Harding High School is the location for both the dinner and basketball game.

Stanley Jackson, a member of the Boys and Girls Club Board of Directors and a former OSU quarterback, has gathered a host of former players to join him on the basketball court.  The players include: Mike Wiley, Pepe Pearson, Dee Miller and many more.

The OSU team will face some of Marion’s own Hometown Hero Team, including Marion City Police Officers: Matt Bayles; Tom Padodano, Shane Gossnel, Chris Adkins and Matt Collins. Marion County Sheriff’s Department will be represented by: Dwayne Meadows, Ryan Scheiderer, Ryan Zempter, John Butterworth and Tommy Miller. Rob Cowell rounds out the team representing the Marion City Fire Department.

Jackson and fellow board members Brenda Johnston and Nick Fisher came up with the idea as a way to raise money for the Club.  He notes, “The Boys and Girls Club has such an important role in keeping kids safe and occupied afterschool and in the summer.

Last year the club served 650 kids in Marion. We also opened a new sight at McKinley Elementary. To keep programs going, we need funds.  This is a fun way to raise some of that needed money”.

Executive Director, Carol Dimoff notes, “This past year has been one of rebuilding and redefining who we are what we do. We have had the opportunity to build on community partnerships and, as a result, reach so many more kids in the process.  I’m looking forward to a fun evening of food and basketball!”

The dinner starts at 6 and features boneless pork loin, roast beef, vegetables, potatoes, and dessert.  Kids can feast on hot dogs, beans and brownies.  There will also be a silent auction of Kitchen Aid small appliances courtesy of Whirlpool, several prizes donated by Showplace Rental,  paintings by local children, and a 50/50 drawing.

Dinner tickets are $50 for a couple and $30 for singles, children under 13 get in free with a paying adult.  The dinner tickets cover the cost of the basketball game as well. The former OSU players will be at the dinner to greet those present and sign autographs. Those interested in attending the game only will pay $15 at the door or $12 pre-sale.  The game starts at 7:30.  All Boys and Girls Club board members have tickets or they can be purchased from the club by calling 387-3462.  Boys and Girls Club of Marion is a not-for-profit organization.
