Mayor Scott Schertzer has announced that leaf collection for City of Marion residents will begin Monday October 19th and continue through Friday, December 18th. The three options for disposal of leaves by city residents are:
1) Place the leaves in the tree lawn area to be vacuumed. Four vacuum-type collectors will collect leaves raked to the tree lawn area, with each street having leaves collected twice during the leaf pick-up season. As a note, it is requested that residents refrain from raking leaves into the street in order to keep from blocking catch basins and drains, so if it rains, the rain water can drain properly into the city's storm sewer system.
2) Place leaves in biodegradable paper bags for City pick up. Residents wishing to bag leaves may do so by placing them in clearly marked biodegradable paper bags sold at local retail stores. The filled bags should be placed at curbside on the day following the resident's regular garbage puck-up.
3) Take biodegradable paper bagged leaves to the City's free drop off. The free drop off site is located at 960 West Center Street and will be open to City residents from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. Proof of city residency is required. The biodegradable paper bags may be placed in dumpsters. If any other type of bag is used, leaves must be emptied from the bag before depositing into the dumpster.
