Richland Road Weather Siren Repaired

On January 24, 2012, the tornado siren on Neidhart Road in Pleasant Township malfunctioned due to a bad circuit board. The Marion County Sheriff's Office reports that as of Wednesday, the tornado siren has been repaired and should be functioning properly.

Permanent Drug Drop Off Locations Established in Marion

The Crawford-Marion ADAMH board and the Marion County Opiate Task force, in partnership with Marion County Sheriff Tim Bailey and Marion Police Chief Tom Bell, have announced the installation of permanent pharmaceutical drop boxes to give citizens the opportunity to turn in controlled substances and unused or expired prescription medications year-round.

Sheriff Working to Maintain Services at Dog Pound

With the resignation of the Marion County Dog Warden, Marion County Sheriff Tim Bailey has taken over control of the department’s operation. While they are attempting to maintain the current services, the Sheriff is asking for patience as they work out the operational details over the coming days and weeks.

Marion Dog Warden Resigns

The Marion County Commissioners Thursday morning accepted the resignation of Marion County Dog Warden Amie Adams. The Commissioners voted to have Marion County Sheriff Tim Bailey act as the dog warden on a temporary basis.

Marion County Prosecutor Brent Yager has reportedly been investigating the dog warden’s office. Details on what that investigation entails were not provided.

Marion Bank Robbed

The Marion County Sheriff's Office is investigating a robbery at Commercial Savings Bank on Barks Road on Friday. The robbery report came into the sheriff's office at just after noon.

The male suspect entered the bank at 195 Barks Road West and displayed a note to a bank teller and he then fled the area on foot. No one was injured during the incident.

Sheriff Announces Increased Traffic Safety Enforcement

Marion County Sheriff Tim Bailey announced his office will be participating in a countywide traffic detail targeting speed and alcohol related violations for the upcoming holidays. Deputies will be conducting extra traffic enforcement and patrol now through New Years day.

Budget Cuts Cause Changes to Sheriff Services

Marion County Sheriff Tim Bailey has announced a change in the location and hours of operation for Webcheck background checks and for processing Ohio Conceal Carry License applications.

Starting on December 19th, 2011, Webchecks and CCL applications will be conducted at the sheriff’s office on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9:00am to 3:00pm.

Sheriff’s Office Issues 12 Layoff Notices

Marion County Sheriff Tim Bailey announced Wednesday that layoff notices were issued to 12 deputies on Tuesday, December 6. The layoffs are a result of dwindling tax revenues which caused the County Commissioners to cut the sheriff’s office’s 2012 budget. While the cut was considerable, it was less than the cut received by other county departments.

Drop Off Collects Over 360 Pounds of Medications

Saturday, October 29, officers from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office and the Marion Police Department, The MARMET-METRICH Drug Task Force along with assistance from members of the Marion County Recycling and Litter Prevention Office, the Marion Crawford ADAMH Board, The Marion Star and Marion General Hospital-Ohio Health joined efforts to collect medication from the community for disposal.

Illegal Drugs Seized at Two Area Businesses

On Friday, October 21, the MARMET-METRICH Drug Task Force conducted two search warrants; one at The South Prospect Street Market, 682 South Prospect Street in Marion, and one at The Caledonia Quick Stop, 533 South High Street in Caledonia. Additional detectives from the Marion City Police Department and the Marion County Sheriff’s Office assisted the drug task force.
