SIDEWALK INSPECTION is another vital service,
handled by the office of the City Engineer, phone 387-2240. Primarily, sidewalks are the
responsibility of property owners. The City Engineer will inspect damaged areas and
recommend repairs on request. If these repairs are not made by the property owner, the
City will do the necessary work at the property owners expense.
IMPROVEMENTS such as new curbs, gutters,
sewers, paving and sidewalks can be sought by contacting the City Engineer. He will give
you information on the proper procedure to be used by persons who wish to be assessed so
that they may make such improvements themselves. Petitions and permits are required.
TRAFFIC SIGNS & SIGNALS which have been
damaged, removed, or are not operating correctly should be reported to the Police
Department, phone 387-2525.
SEWER COMPLAINTS should be made to the Water
Pollution Control Plant at 383-6051. On matters regarding REFUSE AND GARBAGE COLLECTION,
contact the Sanitation Department at 382-1479. However, appliances, furniture and waste
materials from construction, remodeling or building repairs (bricks, plaster, lumber,
metal, etc.) are not considered garbage or refuse. You can make arrangements for the City
to pick up these items on a special fee basis. Dumping garbage, refuse or waste materials
in any part of the City is strictly prohibited. Yard waste other than grass clippings will
be picked up by the City if it is biodegradable bags. Brush must be bundled no longer that
5 foot lengths. Contact the City Garage for rules on disposal of grass clippings. Billing
inquiries may be made by calling the Utility Billing Department at 387-5939.
