Turning Point thanks Christmas sponsors
01-13-2006 7:22 am

Once yet again, our communities have come through for our families!  Thanks to the generosity of 75 sponsors - individuals, families, businesses, clubs, churches, etc. – 112 Turning Point families were provided with Christmas.  Two hundred and sixty women and children would not have been blessed with as many gifts or as much food without this program.

Many of the items on our families’ wish lists tell their story.  Most moms were only concerned that their children were taken care of; if they did ask for something for themselves, it was usually for the house such as dishes or linens.

The holidays are a stressful time for all of us and especially for our families.  For most, it is the first holiday after leaving an abusive home life.  While they are thankful to be free of the abuse, they have often lost the financial support of the abuser and are struggling to make ends meet.   Knowing that there are so many people who are so compassionate and supportive makes it much easier for them to face tomorrow.

In addition to the number of sponsors adopting families, Turning Point collected financial donations, toys, and gifts which they used to provide for the needs of those who entered our program after all the sponsor matches were made.

None of this would have been possible without the compassionate nature of our
neighbors and friends.  How wonderful to know that when there is a need in our community, our community responds!   Thank you from all of us at Turning Point and from those whom you have embraced.

Turning Point offers a 24-hour hotline for victims of domestic violence.  If you or someone you know needs help or if you would like more information, please call (800) 232-6505 or (740) 382-8988.

Turning Point is a non-profit agency.  Funding comes for a variety of sources including the United Way, the Crawford/Marion ADAMH Board, and the Delaware/Morrow Mental Health and Recovery Services Board.
