The September meeting was opened with prayer by President Dave Lippert at 8:35 in the Morrow Room of Marion General Hospital

 

Maj. Phil Tamayo, past president inducted into office Dave Lippert, President, Ron Lanthrop, Treasurer and Dick Mickley, Secretary.

 

Dan Kiger presented devotions using Life Together by Bonhoeffer. It a Christian community, there is much that one forebears to uplift the community.

 

President Dave, presented a policy on handouts and announcements. Announcements will be at the close of the meeting, after the program.

 

By consensus, it was agreed the dues remain at $15, and those in attendance would contribute $1 for the refreshments. The balance of refreshment costs would come out of the treasury.

 

The program was an explanation of the Heart of Ohio Celebration given by the Rev. Dr. Bob Kendig with the Billy Graham Associate Celebration to be held October 10, 11, and 12 at the Veterans Memorial Coliseum.

 

The meeting was closed with prayer by President Dave at 9:20 AM.

 

Announcements:

            Phil Tamayo gave a list of prayer groups for the Celebration

            Dan Kiger, indicated he would chair the 2004 Crop Walk, and that it will be May 4

                        No one objected to his candidancy

            Irene Sprague handed out flyers for Life Choice

MARION COUNTY MINISTERIAL ASSOCIATION

MINUTES

October 7, 2003

 

 

The October meeting of the Ministerial Association was called to order at 8:30 AM by President Dave Lippert pastor at Emmanuel Reformed with introductions of all present.

 

The opening prayer was given by Dick Mickley, pastor at Forest Lawn Presbyterian.

 

Phil Tamayo of the Salvation Army gave the morning devotions, based on Numbers 11, the wailing against the leaders and to the Lord.

Rev. Dan Kiger, chaplain at Marion General Hospital present the program making the Hospital More Clergy Friendly, and talked about  “HIPA” the Health Information Privacy Act. If you want to be treated courteously, be courteous, and wear your name badge, which can be procured from his office.

 

Howard Stroble, retired Lutheran minister, and chaplain for ARMS, gave a report on the nursing home ministry. 

 

Announcements:

            Barb Morgan, coordinator for the Salvation Army bell ringers asked for volunteers, and asked us to announce it in the pulpit or bulletins.

            Tom Hypes, of the Shepherds Nook, mentioned the new program “Hell’s Motives” and asked whether we had received the mailing.

            Dan Kiger asked us to make sure we had May 2, 2004 as the date for the Crop Walk, and not to forget it. He also mentioned the Heart Association Dinner.

            George Sprague told us LOVE, In the Name of Christ has moved to the shopping center at rts 423 and 4 [the old Rink’s for those who can remember back that far] The number for client’s to reach LOVE INC is [740] 382-3340

            Dave Lippert mentioned the Singsperation at Emmanuel Reformed in Green Camp on October 19 at 7:00 PM

NOVEMBER, 2003

MARION COUNTY MINISTERIAL ASSOCIATION

Nov. 4, 2003

 

 

 

 

 

 

The November of the Marion County Ministerial Association was opened with prayer by Rev. Durtche, vice president at 8:30 AM on Nov. 4, 2003 in the Morrow Room in Marion General hospital.

 

Devotions were given by the Rev. Dr. Watson, Marion Christian Center, on the theology of faith like the soaring of the eagle [Isaiah 40:31], using some of his collection of eagles.

 

Old and new business.  Gale Green, First United Church of Christ, asked that we share the community programs, dates, times places. It will be included on the next sign in roster. Gale also indicated that Habitat for Humanity is interested is building in Marion. Her e-mail in pastorgale@msn.com

 

Pres. Dave Lippert, told of a new person, Mark Mauldin, coming into the Nursing Homes program with an emphasis on organizing. He is also pastor at Word Of Life Christian Center

 

The heart of Ohio Celebration may be owed some money. All the local bills have been paid, but the “organization” bills have not been computed.

 

Keith Britton, of WEEC Springfield, introduced himself and indicated that the station is going to put up a repeater in downtown Marion. It will broadcast on 101.9, and ought to up and running in about 3-4 months.

 

Dan Kiger, introduced Dan, from the hospital, and Mary of the Marion Free Clinic who talked of the new Center St. Community Clinic to be located at 205 W. Center St. It will combine the efforts of the two clinics to more effectively serve the working poor, and the underinsured and uninsured folks of the community. The figures would indicate 7000  underinsured and 7000 uninsured in Marion County. The phone for the Center will be 375-6030.  Until the Center is operational, people can reach the Free Clinic at 382-5236.

 

Announcements, of the movie Lutheran coming to the Palace, and Cana’s Cry to be put on at Lee St. Presbyterian Church. Emmanuel Lutheran Church will be doing the Annual Thanksgiving Dinner on Thanksgiving.

DECEMBER 2003 MINUTES

 

MARION COUNTY MINISTERIAL ASSOCIATION

MINUTES Dec. 6, 2003

The meeting was opened with greetings at 8: 30 AM by Pres. Dave Lippert, Emmanuel Reformed, Green Camp, and introductions were made. Rev. J. David Worthen, newly installed minister at First Presbyterian was welcomed

Announcements:

Sister Erlene Hatch announced the martin Luther King Celebration and passed around a sign up for pieces of the program.

Bill Maki, Emmanuel Lutheran, reported that they had served 1250 meals on Thanksgiving Day.

Dan Kiger reported that George Sprague was in surgery as we met. Also that Crop Walk will be the 1st Sunday in May.

Phil Tamayo, Salvation Army, reported that the Army had received $1,700 from Crop Walk this year. They will be serving 60 more families this winter.

Love INC’s annual meeting will be Feb. 20. The Nat’l Exec will be here as speaker.

Devotions and opening prayer were given by Rev. Rafael Velazco, Community UMC using Isaiah 43; 18-19. How open are we to God’s new ways. 2000 years ago it was the religious leaders who had no clue. How about us?

Dan Kiger introduced the speaker, Dr. Jim Gebhart from Ohio Institute for Pastoral care. Whether we survive stress depends on where our loci of control is; internal or external/

Ken Durtsche, Community Baptist, Fairpark, V. Pres., announced that Pres. Dave Lippert is a candidate for the office of County Commissioner. There was a motion and second to support Dave, and for him to remain as our President.

Doug Ford, Abundant Life Assembly of God, recommended that the executive committee figure out a plan to reimburse the Ralph Bell Celebration for the contributions to the Celebration here.

V. Pres Rev. Ken Durtsche, Fairpark Community Baptist, opened the meeting with greetings at 8: 35 AM in the Morrow Room at Marion General Hospital.  There were 18 members and 2 guests in attendance.  Ken indicated that our Pres. Was in Florida attending to his father-in-law’s funeral.

 

Rev. Dan Kiger, Marion Hospital Chaplain told of the precautions talked because of the flu crisis, and went over the accomplishments in 2003. The Emergency Room process has been speeded up. From the time the decision is made that you are a “keeper” you are supposed to be in your room in 60 minutes. While he had the floor, he also mentioned the CROP Walk on May 2.

 

Devotions and opening prayer were given by Rev. bill Maki, Emmanuel Lutheran using 1st Kings, Where God speaks to us. He also talked about unity starting with Christ is our Savior.

           

            Ken Durtsche introduced Dave Clayborn who gave us an update of the a2003 accomplishments of CANDO, and their incentives for 2004. At the conclusion of his comments, Pam Hall, executive of the Chamber of Commerce, an advocate for change, made her comments about the economic climate in Marion County, and invited us to take of tour of their new offices.

 

Announcements:

 

            Dick Mickley asked us to start thinking about the Community Good Friday Service, to be at Forest Lawn Presbyterian on April 9. We will be using the Seven Last Words of Christ.

           

            Irene Sprague announced the Sanctity of Life service to be Sunday Jan. 25 at 2: 30 PM at the Grace Brethren Church, 2813 Gooding Road. There are videotapes available also.

 

            George Sprague reminded us of Love INC’s annual meeting will be Feb. 20. The Nat’l Exec will be here as speaker. Love INC is sponsoring a famine program on Feb. 27-28.

 

            Doug Ford, Abundant Life Assembly of God, announced a Lay Counseling program at the church.

 

            Elder Frank O’Bryant, 1st John, COGIC, reminded us of the martin Luther King Services on Jan. 18 and 19.

 

Rev. Reid Miller, Central Christian, announced that Central is interviewing a minister, and Reid expects to be leaving as interim soon. Question was raised as to when he will be back.

Old and New business:

 

            On motion and second the treasurer’s report was received.

 

            On motion and second, the treasurer was directed to send contributions in the name of the Marion County ministerial Association to Salvation Army in the amount of $100 and to the Homeless Shelter in the amount of $100.

Feb. 3, 2004

 

 

 

The meeting was opened with greetings at 8: 35 AM by Pres. Dave Lippert, Emmanuel Reformed, Green Camp, and introductions were made. 13 members and 2 visitors present

Devotions and opening prayer were given by Rev. Marcellus deOliveira, 7th Day Adventist Churches of Marion, Bucyrus and Galion. Disciples are called to be with Jesus Christ are marked by repentance and a daily connection with God.

Old Business:

Dick Mickley, Lay Pastor Forest Lawn Presbyterian Church, discussed the Community Good Friday Service, and asked for volunteers for particular parts therein.

Sister Earlean Hatch, Black Heritage Council made an announcement on the Council banquet for Feb. 29th.

On motion and second it was approved to have an advertisement in the banquet pamphlet.

The chaplain’s report was given by Rev. Dan Kiger. The Hospital is two months away from having patients being visited by a Patient Relations person the morning after admission. Questions will be asked about religious affiliations at that time. The hospital still can’t call the churches with that information, but it will improve the desk book.

Dan Introduced Jill Nagy Reynolds of the regional office of Church World Service who talked to us about Crop Walk. The Crop Walk will be May 2. Dan Kiger is coordinator. We will need support from the pulpit. We need three more folks for the committee. Bill Maki, Emanuel Lutheran, will be responsible for the flyer and calling.

The recruiters meeting will be March 10 at Central Christian, at 7:00 PM.

Announcements:

Earlean Hatch reported that the Martin Luther King celebration had excess funds in the amount of $83.53 that they would like to go to the deficit in the Ralph Bell Celebration funds. There is a video of the events at TV 39

Linda Harris talked about the crisis intervention and suicide prevention assistance of Contact Careline. The next training session will be at Marion Area Counseling Center on the first Sat. in April at 9:30 AM

George Sprague, exec dir. of Love In the Name of Christ announced the annual meeting for Feb 20. The speaker is the national director. Reservations need to be in by the 13th.

Charlene Baughman, Lee St. Presbyterian Church needs a piano player. If you know of anyone, call her.

March 2, 2004

 

The March meeting was opened with prayer by President Dave Lippert at 8:35 in the Morrow Room of Marion General Hospital

Rev. Dave’s devotions were based on 1 Peter 1: 3-5: The great mercy and new birth in the living hope in the risen Lord.

Old Business:

Pastor Mickley detailed the schedule for the Good Friday Community Service to be held at Forest Lawn Presbyterian on E. Center St.

New business:

Rev. Sprague announced the 30 hour fast, proceeds to go to LOVE In the Name of Christ [Love Inc]. Sponsors could be for 50¢ an hour.

Dave Aiken announced that TV 39 has converted to DVD, and has available the ability to convert old video to DVD. He announced "Project Homecoming", bring home to where you are. With nursing homes having DVDs, yyou bring scenes from home to church to your parishioners in the nursing homes.

Ken Durtsche introduced Rev Richard Sawn, an Episcopal priest, who is the chaplain at the Marion Correctional Institution, who explained the morale and religious programs in the Marion institutions and showed a video of the "silent choir" who "sing" with signing.

Announcements:

Pastor Charlene Baughman, Lee St. Presbyterian announced the "Search Your Heart" program at be held at Lee St Presbyterian on the 2d Saturdays of the month, starting March 13. For more information call 382 4311.

April 6, 2004

 

 

 

 

 

The Marion County Ministerial Association met at the Conference Center of the Marion General Hospital.

The meeting opened at 8:45 AM with greetings by Rev. David Lippert, pres. And introductions proceeded around the table. Rev. Dan Kiger introduced the speaker, Paula Roller of Turning Point, the domestic abuse shelter in Marion and surrounding counties.

Pastor Dick Mickley, sec’y asked for joys and concerns and gave the opening prayer. Concern noted for: Nate Smith, Ron Lanthrop, Jacob Kissinger’s family, Willy Craig, mark Schluring’s mother, Jesse, Rev. David Worthen, and Dave Hoffman’s family.

Pastor gave devotions based on the lectionary reading for Sunday, Acts 10: 34-43, Peter’s revelation to Cornelius on the mission of the New Christians, following the Resurrection of our Lord, Jesus Christ.

Pastor Dick reviewed the schedule for the Good Friday Community Service to be at Forest Lawn Presbyterian Church 12:00 noon to 3:00 PM, Fri. April 9, 2004.

Rev. Greg Masteller presented the World Day of Prayer schedule, and asked for input on better ways to do it. This year it will be at the CourtHouse at noon on May 6, 2004

Gale Green announced the 30 years celebration for Mobile Meals to be held in the parking lot at First United Church of Christ on S. Prospect St. on May 8, 2004, 2:oo PM to 4:00 PM.

Dan Kiger reported on Crop Walk. It is on Sunday, May 2, 2004 beginning at Central Christian Church on Mt. Vernon Ave. at 2:00 PM. The mid-way station will be at Forest Lawn Presbyterian Church.

Dan Kiger introduced Paula Roller, from Turning Point, the Domestic Abuse shelter for Marion and surrounding counties. They can be contacted at 382-8988.

Turning Point is celebrating its 25th anniversary. It had its first client on April 2, 1979. They have moved into the old Hearth and Home facility on Banks Rd. There are eight bedrooms available for persons seeking shelter from abusive situations. Ms. Roller stressed that this is a safety program, not a homeless shelter. Other programs are peer support groups, legal advocacy, and preventive education.

IT receives financing from United Way, the ADAMMS boards, and fees from marriage licenses and court fees in divorces and dissolutions.

The meeting was adjourned at 9:45 AM to a visit to the new Turning Point Shelter.

May 4, 2004

 

 

 

 

 

Rev Dave Lippert, outgoing President, opened the May meeting of the Marion County Ministerial Association at 8:35 at the Marion Senior Center with a welcome and introductions of guests.

The opening prayer and devotions were given by Rev. Kenneth Durtsche, outgoing Vice President.

Pastor Charlene Baughman reported for the nominating committee. There were no nominations from the floor. The ballots were marked, and the vote was unanimous for the following slate of officers:

President, Rev. Bill Maki; V. Pres., Chaplain Dan Kiger; Secretary, Pastor Dick Mickley; and treasurer, Pastor Charlene Baughman.

Dick Mickley reported on the Good Friday Community Service. There were 211 in attendance and $245.23 was collected in the offering for Love INC.

Dan Kiger reported on the Crop Walk. There 75 walkers and so far there is $6,000 in pledges. With the new format, pledges and donations, rather than so much per mile, the 3mi walk is sufficient. Dan suggests that the Last Sunday might be a better Sunday. Because of the rain, some of the walkers went to the Mall. The secretary was asked to send thanks to the confirmation class at Epworth Methodist, Reid and Central Christian, Forest Lawn Presbyterian, The First Brethren Church, and the Woodman camp for water.

Charlene Baughman introduced Elder Marilyn Schreffler, member of the Presbytery of Scioto Valley and a member of the Committee for the Self-Development of People. SDOP is about human dignity, self-reliance and community growth. It is a partner with workers in long term solutions. It is about the empowerment of people to make their lives better.

Charlene Baughman asked for prayers for the boy found in the swimming pool. He has brain damage, but is recovering better than the doctors had hopes for. She proposed a concert for support of the family.

Dan Kiger reminded the body that the Academy of Medicine was hosting the dinner this evening for Clergy. He passed out a bulletin for AIDS awareness week.

George Sprague, of Love INC. launched a new program at the national retreat. He will be calling for a ½ hour program to the church governing body.

Dave Lippert gave his thanks for all the help and support for the year. There had been some strange happenings, but we got through it all. He promptly left for another engagement, leaving Dan Kiger incoming Vice President in Charge.

Rev. Bob Young asked for prayers for Dave Cottrell who is leaving the area for Lucusville, Ohio.

Reid Miller announced that Central Christian will be having Sunday evening services the summer.

Dick Mickley, continuing secretary, closed the meeting with prayer at 9:45 2 A.M.
