Commissioners Honor Watts for Service

The Marion County Commissioners approved a resolution to posthumously honor a former school teacher, dog warden, and village mayor who died in a car crash earlier this week. The Commissioners also orders County flags to be flown at half-staff.

Jane Watts was killed in the crash Sunday evening. A celebration of her life is scheduled for Saturday at 1:00 pm at Ridgedale High School.

The resolution approved by the Commissioners read:

WHEREAS; Jane Watts served as the Dog Warden for Marion County for eleven years before retiring on April 7, 2010; and

WHEREAS; Jane Watts was a dedicated and conscientious servant of Marion County and, at the time of her death, was performing her Mayoral civic duties for the Village of Morral; and

WHEREAS; Jane also served the community as a teacher at Ridgedale schools and as a member of the Ridgedale School Board; and

WHEREAS; Jane was a lover and rescuer of animals who was always willing to lend a helping hand wherever it was needed; and

WHEREAS; Jane Watts passed away on July 25, 2010.

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED; that the Board of Marion County Commissioners hereby commends Jane Watts, posthumously, for her sincere dedication and service to Marion County.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED; that the Board of Marion County Commissioners hereby orders the flags at all Marion County government agencies to be flown at half-staff through August 2, 2010.
