Commissioners Approve Paving, Sewer Construction
The Marion County Commissioners Tuesday morning approved a bid for paving as well as an agreement to construct sewer facilities. Both projects impact local school districts.
The paving project covers Hillman-Ford Road which leads to Ridgedale schools. The road had been “chip-and-sealed,” but the process did not take. In order to make the road safer, the paving was required. With the start of school next week, time was running out on the project. The Marion County Engineer’s Office says work started Tuesday and will be completed before school begins.
Brad Irons, the Marion County Engineer, had earlier said they were pursuing compensation from the company that completed the chip-and-seal.
The sewer project is part of the construction of the K-12 building for Elgin schools. The Commissioners approved an agreement with the school district to construct a sanitary sewer force main and lift station. The project will be paid for by the district with the Marion County Sanitary Engineering Office completing the construction with help from Floyd Browne Group.
Once the system is completed, it will be turned over to the City of Marion. The City will maintain the system, as it will tap into their sewer system, with Elgin providing payments for that service.
