Marion Elks Offering “Most Valuable Student” Scholarship

Marion Elks Lodge No. 32 has announced that applications for the Elks National Foundation's 2012 Most Valuable Student scholarships are now available. They have been distributed to local high schools and guidance counselors. Or, they can be obtained online at www.elks.org/enf/scholars, or by e-mail request at scholarships@Elks.org.

Applications for the 2012 scholarships have to be submitted to the Marion Elks Lodge, 130 S. State St, Marion, OH, 43302 by December 2, 2011.

Applicants will be judged on financial need, leadership and scholarship. Ranging from $1,000 per year to $15,000 per year, Most Valuable Student scholarships are for students pursuing a four-year degree, on a full-time basis (minimum of 12 semester hours), in a US American College or University. Male and female students compete separately. All scholarships are in the form of certificates of award conditional upon the enrollment of the winner in an accredited US College or university.

Applications will advance through local, district and state competitions to reach national judging. The Chicago office of the Elks National Foundation will notify the 500 national finalists by email in late February 2012. To be eligible for an award, national finalists will be required to submit a secondary application online. The national finalists will also be required to mail their Student Aid Report to the ENF. These applications are due March 23, 2012.

The local Marion Elks Lodge No. 32 was first chartered in 1885, and is one of the oldest lodges in the country.  It was the first Elks lodge to be started in a non-metro area.  President Warren G. Harding was a member of Marion No. 32.
