Drop Off Collects Over 360 Pounds of Medications
Saturday, October 29, officers from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office and the Marion Police Department, The MARMET-METRICH Drug Task Force along with assistance from members of the Marion County Recycling and Litter Prevention Office, the Marion Crawford ADAMH Board, The Marion Star and Marion General Hospital-Ohio Health joined efforts to collect medication from the community for disposal.
The event ran from 10:00am to 2:00pm at the Marion County Building in the rear parking lot. As a result of the event 168 cars came through and disposed of 131 pounds of unused pills and 230 pounds of unused cream and liquid medications for a total of 361 pounds of unused medications.
Of the 168 cars coming through, 169 different controlled substances were collected. Also collected were four large bins of syringes and four large containers of pill bottles which will be shredded and recycled. All the medications collected will be incinerated.
“Marion County has held three of these collections and this has been the most successful,” said Major Aaron Corwin of the Sheriff’s Office. “All agencies involved want to thank our community for making this event a success and making our community a safer place by properly disposing of these medications.”
