Tapping, Humor, and Music at Palace Theatre

Rhythmic Circus brings their high-energy tap dance and live music show “Feet Don’t Fail Me Now” to the Marion Palace Theatre on Friday, November 18 at 8:00pm. Infusing their unpredictable blend of hard-hitting tap, high-spirited humor, and finger-snapping tunes, Rhythmic Circus satisfies their “rhythmic appetite” on everything from sand to folding chairs, and in one number, they even utilize the technology of electric drum triggers to change the sound of their taps.

Rhythmic Circus has quickly risen from an underground percussive-dance phenomenon to an innovative live performance company known for transforming their tap shoes into instruments of rhythm. “Feet Don’t Fail Me Now” showcases their technical capacity as dancers and explores rhythm through percussive dance as it plays off a wide array of musical genres spanning from Minneapolis funk to salsa.

While most troupes like Rhythmic Circus are formed through auditions and cutthroat competition, this particular group began as friends and fellow artists in the Minneapolis art scene.  The cohort connected artistically while pursuing their own solo careers and chose to join forces with a full-length show.

Their chemistry, connection and true joy to be sharing the stage with each other as they all collectively pursue their dreams is palpable throughout the entire show.

Interim Executive Director Bev Ford became an instant fan of the group when seeing a preview at a conference in 2010.

“I have always been a fan of tap dancing, although I’m not a dancer. But I’ve never seen tapping like this before. The energy and speed with which these dancers perform is unbelievable. Truly a ‘you’ve got to see it to believe it’ performance.  And their band will blow you away. They definitely left me wanting more!”

Tickets for “Feet Don’t Fail Me Now” are on sale now for $22/$15.  They may be purchased at the Palace box office, 276 W. Center St. in downtown Marion or by phone at 740/383-2101.  College rush tickets will be available in the box office one hour prior to show time at a cost of $10 each (limit two; valid student photo ID required at time of purchase).  Box office hours are 9:00am-5:00pm Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, and closed Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday.  Information for all shows and tickets is also online at www.marionpalace.org.  United Federal Credit Union generously sponsors this night of dance and music.
